Activities & Programs

We provide state of the art, stimulating and enjoyable activities

At SarahCare, we provide our participants with a broad selection of stimulating and enjoyable activities—from simple sing-alongs to mild physical exercise routines. Level of participation is a choice at SarahCare. We tried to provide the latest technology for our developmentally disabled adults. After much research on the benefit of each activity, we have come up with a variety of different activity choices to reach all levels of cognitive abilities.

Our Snoozelen Room

Snoozelen Room is a multi-sensory environment that has shown to have the following benefits to developmentally disabled adults.

Sensory Stimulation

By encouraging the user to engage and explore the environment then it can have positive effects on their ability to react and interact with the larger world around them.

Improve Balance, Movement and Spatial Orientation

Sensory rooms can help develop users’ visual processing abilities as well as their fine and gross motor skills, facilitating day-to-day living.

Enhance Learning through Play

Following on from this, sensory stimulation can engage different areas of the brain, helping participants absorb and retain more information and better meeting the needs of the individual.

Tackle Problems with Behavior

Sensory environments can be highly absorbing, providing a moment of comfort and calm for overactive and distressed individuals, and helping inactive individuals to feel better engaged. This improves focus and prevents users from getting the urge to ‘act up’.

Therapy

Having a pet can actually help lower a person’s stress and blood pressure. At Echo Lake Day Hab, Creature Comforts bring in professionally trained, well-behaved therapy pets to mingle with our guests. Your loved ones can enjoy the positive experiences of interacting with an affectionate animal, in a safe and controlled setting.
Cooking Classes

Cooking Classes

Our Activity Director will hold cooking classes to show all the participants how to work their way around a kitchen. An activity tailored for different cognitive levels.
Birthday Parties

Birthday Parties

Every month we celebrate all the participants and staff who had a birthday that month. We have an entertainer who comes in and performs for us and we get a big birthday cake for everyone.
Intergenerational Activities

Intergenerational Activities

Intergenerational Programs are designed to bring together two very different generations… Elders and Children… for the support and resources they can offer one another. As a result, the two learn from each other… sharing their feelings, ideas, skills, and affection. We encourage the interaction of children from infancy to high school age students with our participants. We will be working with the Arc Kohler school in Mountainside, which is 2 doors down from our center for some of our intergenerational activities.
Community Outings

Community Outings

We take our participants out into the community as often as possible for them to enjoy interaction with other people, see live events, exercise, learn and enjoy. All under the guidance of our watchful staff.
